A no-claim discount is a reduction in premium given for a period of insurance completed without a claim. In the UAE it is evidenced by a no-claim certificate issued by your previous insurer, and it is applied at the new insurer's discretion.
In more detail
The discount usually increases in steps for each consecutive claim-free year, up to a maximum set by the insurer. Because the scale is an insurer's own commercial decision, the same certificate can produce different discounts at different companies.
Request the no-claim certificate from your outgoing insurer before the policy expires and send it with your quotation request. Without it, the discount often cannot be applied even where your record is genuinely clean.
Conditions and exceptions
- A claim during the year typically reduces or resets the discount; some insurers offer protection of the discount as a paid option.
- Cover taken outside the UAE is not always recognised. Check with the new insurer before assuming it will be.
Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
