Car Insurance in Sharjah
Sharjah vehicle registration is handled through the Sharjah Police Traffic and Licensing Department and approved testing centres. Insurance must be in force before registration is renewed, and the certificate is checked electronically at the time of renewal.
What matters for drivers in Sharjah
- Heavy daily commuting between Sharjah and Dubai means congestion-related minor collisions are common — the excess (deductible) on a comprehensive policy is worth checking carefully.
- Sharjah has a large share of older and higher-mileage vehicles; many insurers restrict comprehensive cover once a car passes a certain age and offer third party liability instead.
- Multi-driver household use is common, so confirm with the insurer whether any driver holding a valid UAE licence is covered or whether named drivers apply.

My car is over ten years old — can I still get comprehensive cover in Sharjah?
It depends on the insurer. Many restrict comprehensive cover by vehicle age or require an inspection. Where comprehensive is not available, third party liability cover can still be arranged.
Does my Sharjah policy cover me driving in Dubai?
A UAE motor policy covers driving within the UAE regardless of the emirate of registration. Cover in Oman or other GCC countries is a separate extension and must be added.
