Can I buy car insurance online in the UAE?

Written by the Dubai Motor Insure editorial team · Last updated 10 September 2026

Yes. Motor insurance can be arranged online in the UAE, and the certificate is issued electronically by the insurer. You do not normally need to attend an office to buy or renew a policy.

In more detail

In practice the process is: submit the vehicle and driver details, receive the available options, choose one, pay the insurer, and receive the policy documents and certificate. The certificate is registered electronically so it can be recognised at registration or renewal.

Some cases still need manual underwriting rather than an instant online price — imported or Non-GCC vehicles, high-value cars, commercial use, unusual claims history, or a newly issued licence. In those cases the quotation is prepared by an underwriter and returned to you.

Conditions and exceptions

  • Cover starts on the date shown on the policy schedule, not the moment of payment. Check that date before you rely on it.
  • Always keep the emailed certificate; it is the document the licensing authority recognises.

Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
