A renewal can increase even when nothing about your driving changed, because insurers re-rate the risk each year. The most common individual reasons are a claim during the year, a change to the cover or excess, and general increases in vehicle repair and parts costs.
In more detail
A claim usually removes or reduces a no-claim discount, and that alone can move a renewal noticeably. Adding a benefit such as agency repair, or lowering the excess, has the same effect through a different route.
Insurer-level changes also matter. An insurer may re-price a whole vehicle category after reviewing its claims experience, or may change how it rates a particular model or driver group. That is why comparing several quotations at renewal is worthwhile rather than accepting the first offer.
Conditions and exceptions
- A rise on your renewal notice does not mean the market has risen — another insurer may rate the same risk differently.
- Ask your advisor to show the difference in terms, not only in price, before switching.
Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
