Renewal

Can I change insurer when renewing my policy?

Yes. At renewal you are free to move to any insurer that will accept your vehicle and driver profile. There is no requirement to stay with your existing insurer.

In more detail

Arrange the new policy so it starts the day the old one ends. A gap, even of a day, leaves the vehicle uninsured and can affect the discount a new insurer offers.

Ask your outgoing insurer for a no-claim certificate before the policy expires — it is far easier to obtain while the policy is live. Also carry across a note of your current excess and repair arrangement so you can compare like with like.

Conditions and exceptions

  • Recognition of a no-claim record from another insurer is at the new insurer's discretion.
  • If your vehicle is financed, tell the lender when the insurer changes; the policy usually needs to note their interest.

Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
