Renew by arranging a new policy before your current one expires, then use the new certificate for vehicle registration renewal. You are free to renew with a different insurer — you are not obliged to stay with your current one.
In more detail
Start around three to four weeks before expiry. That leaves time to obtain a no-claim certificate, compare options and have the certificate issued before the registration appointment, and it avoids any gap in cover.
The documents are the same as for a new policy: Emirates ID, UAE driving licence and the Mulkiya, plus the no-claim certificate where a discount is being claimed. In Dubai the vehicle registration renewal itself is completed with the RTA once valid insurance is in force and any required test is passed.
Conditions and exceptions
- A lapse in cover, even a short one, can affect both your ability to renew registration and the discount an insurer will offer.
- Renewal terms are not guaranteed to match last year's — insurers re-rate each year.

Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
