What happens after a car accident in the UAE?

Written by the Dubai Motor Insure editorial team · Last updated 10 September 2026

Make the scene safe, check for injuries and report the accident to the police. In the UAE the police report is the document that records the circumstances and the determination of fault, and insurers work from it when handling the claim.

In more detail

For minor incidents with no injuries, the police in several emirates allow reporting through an app or by attending a service point rather than waiting at the scene; follow the instruction given when you call. Do not agree privately to settle damage without a report if you intend to claim.

Once the report is issued, notify your insurer promptly and follow their process for inspection and repair authorisation. Repairs carried out before the insurer approves them are frequently not reimbursed.

Conditions and exceptions

  • Reporting procedures differ by emirate; the emergency number for police is 999.
  • Time limits for notifying an insurer are set out in the policy wording.
