Does car insurance cover flood or natural disaster damage in the UAE?

Written by the Dubai Motor Insure editorial team · Last updated 10 September 2026

Not automatically. Damage from flooding, storms and other natural events is a product-specific benefit in the UAE: some comprehensive policies include it, others offer it as a paid extension, and some exclude it. It is never covered by third party liability.

In more detail

Because heavy rain events do occur in the UAE, this is one of the most important items to check on the policy schedule. Look for wording covering natural perils, acts of nature or storm and flood, and ask for it in writing if it is not clearly stated.

Where the benefit exists, insurers usually apply the normal own-damage excess, and may apply conditions about driving into standing water.

Conditions and exceptions

  • Deliberately driving through flood water can void the claim under many wordings.
  • Availability and pricing of the extension differ between insurers and can change year to year.

Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
