How do I make a car insurance claim in the UAE?

Report the incident to the police and obtain the report, notify your insurer, present the vehicle for inspection, wait for repair approval, then have the repair carried out at the workshop the policy allows. The excess is paid by you as part of the settlement.

In more detail

Keep the police report, your Emirates ID, licence, Mulkiya and policy documents together — they are requested at the start of almost every claim. Photographs of the damage and the scene are useful supporting evidence.

The insurer decides whether to repair, replace parts, or treat the vehicle as a total loss based on the assessed cost against the vehicle's value. You are entitled to ask for the basis of that decision in writing.

Conditions and exceptions

  • Claims processes and turnaround times differ between insurers; the policy wording sets out your obligations.
  • Repairs authorised by you rather than by the insurer are commonly excluded from reimbursement.

Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
