What the terms mean
Agency repair means that, following a covered claim, the vehicle is repaired at the manufacturer's authorised dealer workshop. Non-agency repair means the vehicle is repaired at a garage within the insurer's approved network.
This is a clause in the policy schedule, not a service you can choose at the moment of the claim. If agency repair is not stated on the schedule, it does not apply.
How to choose
Some insurers also offer agency repair for a limited number of years and then move the vehicle to the non-agency network — confirm the exact term rather than assuming it continues for the life of the car.
- Agency repair is usually preferred while the vehicle is new or under manufacturer warranty, where dealer repair history supports resale value.
- Non-agency repair typically reduces the premium and is common for older vehicles, where dealer-network repair is less relevant to value.
- Check practicality: for some brands the authorised workshop may be in another emirate.
