Pickup Insurance in UAE
Pickups sit between private cars and commercial vehicles. How the vehicle is used — personal transport, site work, or carrying goods for a business — determines which policy is correct and what a claim will look like.
Private pickup or working vehicle
A pickup used purely for family transport can often be written as a private motor risk. The same vehicle carrying materials for a business is a commercial risk. Insurers ask because the exposure — mileage, load, sites visited, drivers — is genuinely different.
Load, equipment and modifications
- Racks, toolboxes, tipper conversions and cranes should be declared.
- Equipment fitted to the vehicle is not automatically part of the sum insured.
- Goods being carried are covered by separate transit insurance, not the motor policy.
Site and off-road use
Driving on construction sites, unpaved ground or in the desert is commonly excluded unless off-road cover is specifically added. If the vehicle works off sealed roads, raise it before the policy is issued.
Common pickup models
Hilux, Ranger, Navara, D-Max and similar models are widely used across the UAE. Insurer appetite differs by model, age and declared use rather than being a single answer for all pickups.
Documents usually required
- Mulkiya / registration card
- Trade licence, where the vehicle is used for business
- Emirates ID and driving licence for each driver
- Details of any fitted equipment or conversion
Individual insurers may ask for additional documents depending on the vehicle and driver profile.
How the process works
- 1Send us the vehicle and driver details, or complete the online quotation form.
- 2We identify which insurers can consider that vehicle and driver profile.
- 3You receive the available options with cover terms, excess and exclusions set out plainly.
- 4You choose an option and the insurer issues the policy and certificate.
- 5The certificate is used for registration or renewal with your emirate's authority.
Frequently asked questions
Is a pickup insured as a private car?
It depends on how it is used and how it is registered. Personal use may be written privately; business use needs commercial cover.
Is the load in the bed covered?
No. The motor policy covers the vehicle and third party liability, not the goods being carried.
Is off-road or site driving covered?
Usually excluded unless the insurer specifically adds off-road cover to the policy.
Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
