Commercial Vehicle Insurance in UAE

A vehicle used for business is a different risk from a private car. Mileage is higher, several drivers may use it, and goods or passengers may be carried. Insurers underwrite it under a commercial motor policy rather than a private one.

Use must be declared correctly

Delivery, ride-hailing, goods carriage and staff transport are commercial uses. A private motor policy generally excludes them, so a claim arising during commercial use on a private policy can be declined. Declaring the real use is the single most important step.

Drivers and fleets

  • Several named drivers, or an any-authorised-driver basis, depending on the insurer.
  • Trade licence and driver licence details are usually requested.
  • Small fleets can often be written on a single policy with a common renewal date.

Goods in transit is separate

A motor policy covers the vehicle and third party liability. Cargo you are carrying is normally a separate goods-in-transit cover. Do not assume the motor policy protects the load.

Documents and administration

Commercial cover normally requires the trade licence in addition to the usual vehicle and driver documents, and renewal timing should be coordinated so registration is never left without valid cover.

Documents usually required

  • Trade licence copy
  • Mulkiya / registration card for each vehicle
  • Emirates ID and driving licence for each named driver
  • Previous policy and claims record, where available

Individual insurers may ask for additional documents depending on the vehicle and driver profile.

How the process works

  1. 1Send us the vehicle and driver details, or complete the online quotation form.
  2. 2We identify which insurers can consider that vehicle and driver profile.
  3. 3You receive the available options with cover terms, excess and exclusions set out plainly.
  4. 4You choose an option and the insurer issues the policy and certificate.
  5. 5The certificate is used for registration or renewal with your emirate's authority.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my private car for deliveries?

Not under a private motor policy. Delivery and ride-hailing use is normally excluded and needs the correct commercial cover.

Can several vehicles go on one policy?

Insurers commonly write small fleets on a single policy with one renewal date. It depends on the insurer and the fleet profile.

Are the goods I carry covered?

No. Cargo is normally covered by separate goods-in-transit insurance, not the motor policy.

Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
