New Car Insurance in UAE
A new vehicle cannot be registered in the UAE until a motor insurance certificate is in force, so cover is normally arranged in the days before you collect the car from the showroom. This page explains what changes when the vehicle is brand new.
Cover has to exist before the car is registered
For a first registration the insurer works from the sales invoice and chassis number rather than a Mulkiya, because the registration card does not exist yet. Give the showroom invoice to your advisor as soon as it is issued so the certificate is ready on collection day rather than on the day of the appointment.
Agency repair on a new vehicle
Many owners of new cars want repairs carried out at the manufacturer's authorised workshop. Agency repair is an insurer-specific option, usually offered for a limited number of years from first registration and not automatically part of every comprehensive policy. Confirm it is written on the policy schedule rather than assuming it is included.
- Agency repair availability and duration differ between insurers.
- Some policies offer agency repair only for the first two or three years.
- Where agency repair is not available, the insurer nominates its approved workshop network.
Sum insured on a new car
The sum insured is normally based on the invoice value in the first year and on market value at each later renewal. Insuring a car for more than its market value does not increase what is paid after a total loss, and insuring it for less can reduce a claim settlement.
Finance and bank interest
If the car is financed, the bank is usually recorded on the policy as an interested party and will expect comprehensive cover for the term of the finance. Tell your advisor the financing bank so the policy is issued with the correct endorsement first time.
Documents usually required
- Showroom sales invoice with chassis number
- Emirates ID (front and back)
- UAE driving licence (front and back)
- Finance or bank letter, where the vehicle is financed
Individual insurers may ask for additional documents depending on the vehicle and driver profile.

Frequently asked questions
Can I register a new car without insurance?
No. A valid motor insurance certificate covering the registration period is required before the vehicle can be registered in any emirate.
Is agency repair included on every new car policy?
No. It is an insurer-specific benefit, usually limited by vehicle age, and it must be shown on your policy schedule to apply.
Which value should a new car be insured for?
Normally the invoice value in the first year. At renewal the insurer will typically reassess on market value.
Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
