An electric vehicle is insured under a standard UAE motor policy, but the details that matter are different. The battery, the charging equipment and the availability of EV-qualified repairers are the items to confirm before accepting a quotation.
In more detail
The battery is normally the single most valuable component. Accidental damage to it is generally covered under comprehensive cover in the same way as other parts, while gradual degradation is a manufacturer warranty matter rather than an insurance one. Ask the insurer to confirm the position in writing.
Home and portable charging equipment is not automatically part of a motor policy. Where you want it covered, ask whether the insurer offers an extension. Repair networks matter too, as high-voltage work must be carried out by a qualified workshop.
Conditions and exceptions
- Battery cover wording is not standardised across the UAE market.
- Agency repair on EVs is more significant than on petrol cars because independent EV repairers are fewer.
Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
