Can I insure an American-spec car in the UAE?

Yes, American-specification vehicles are insured in the UAE, provided the car has been legally imported, cleared and registered. Insurer acceptance is assessed individually and not every insurer will quote comprehensive cover.

In more detail

American-spec cars are among the most common imported specifications in the UAE, so several insurers have established positions on them. Their willingness depends on the model, its age, its condition and any accident history recorded at import.

Supply the customs and import papers with the quotation request. Where the vehicle carries a recorded salvage or written-off history from its origin market, disclose it — non-disclosure is a far bigger problem at claim stage than at quotation stage.

Conditions and exceptions

  • Some insurers apply a higher excess to imported specifications.
  • Parts sourcing may affect repair timelines; this is a practical rather than a policy issue.

Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
