American Spec Car Insurance in UAE

American-specification vehicles are among the most common imports on UAE roads. They are insurable once legally imported and registered, but each insurer decides individually whether it will offer cover and on what terms.

Eligibility is decided per vehicle, not per specification

There is no UAE-wide rule that prevents an American-spec car from being insured. What varies is insurer appetite: some write these vehicles routinely, some restrict them to third party liability, and some decline particular models. A decline from one insurer tells you nothing about the next.

Why terms can differ from a GCC-spec car

Underwriters look at expected claim cost as well as likelihood. Parts sourcing, the availability of workshops willing to carry out the repair, and the resale valuation of an imported specification all feed into that. Where those are less certain, the excess or the premium reflects it.

  • Parts may be imported rather than stocked locally, extending repair times.
  • Authorised workshops sometimes decline non-Gulf specifications.
  • History recorded in the origin market can be harder to verify.

Disclose the vehicle's recorded history

If the vehicle carries a salvage, flood or written-off record from the United States, disclose it when requesting a quotation. Non-disclosure is straightforward to discover at claim stage and is a far more serious problem then than it is now.

Comprehensive versus third party

Comprehensive cover is available for many American-spec vehicles, though not from every insurer and often with a higher excess. Where comprehensive is not offered on acceptable terms, third party liability keeps the vehicle legal and registrable while the position is reviewed at the next renewal.

Documents usually required

  • Emirates ID and UAE driving licence
  • Mulkiya / vehicle registration card
  • Customs clearance and import documentation
  • Chassis number and confirmation of specification
  • Photographs of the vehicle's current condition, where requested

Individual insurers may ask for additional documents depending on the vehicle and driver profile.

How the process works

  1. 1Send us the vehicle and driver details, or complete the online quotation form.
  2. 2We identify which insurers can consider that vehicle and driver profile.
  3. 3You receive the available options with cover terms, excess and exclusions set out plainly.
  4. 4You choose an option and the insurer issues the policy and certificate.
  5. 5The certificate is used for registration or renewal with your emirate's authority.

Frequently asked questions

Can an American-spec car get comprehensive insurance in the UAE?

Often yes, but it is offered selectively and the excess may be higher than for a GCC-specification equivalent. It is confirmed insurer by insurer.

Do I need the import papers to get a quotation?

They are normally requested. Providing the customs documentation and chassis number at the outset avoids the quotation being referred back.

Is agency repair available on an imported car?

It is much less commonly offered on imported specifications. Confirm the repair arrangement on the policy schedule before accepting a quotation.

Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
