Imported Car Insurance in UAE
Vehicles imported into the UAE are underwritten individually. Specification, parts supply and the availability of a manufacturer-approved workshop all influence whether an insurer will consider the vehicle and on what terms.
Why imported cars are assessed differently
An imported car may differ from the regional specification in cooling, electronics, safety equipment or trim. Insurers look at how repairable the vehicle is locally, whether parts can be sourced, and how the value should be established. Terms therefore vary more between insurers than for a regionally supplied car.
Establishing the value
There is not always a straightforward local market reference for an imported model, so the insurer may work from the import documentation, a valuation, or a comparable regional model. Agreeing the sum insured before the policy is issued avoids a dispute at claim stage.
Parts, repairs and timing
If parts must be ordered from outside the region, repairs can take longer. Where a replacement vehicle or extended repair time matters to you, ask which insurers offer that benefit for imported vehicles rather than assuming it applies.
What we do not claim
Acceptance is never guaranteed and differs by insurer, vehicle and driver. We do not state that any particular insurer covers imported vehicles as a rule — we approach the insurers who can consider your specific car and show you what comes back.
Documents usually required
- Import and customs documentation
- Mulkiya / registration card once issued
- Emirates ID and UAE driving licence
- Photographs of the vehicle, where requested
- Any available valuation or inspection report
Individual insurers may ask for additional documents depending on the vehicle and driver profile.
How the process works
- 1Send us the vehicle and driver details, or complete the online quotation form.
- 2We identify which insurers can consider that vehicle and driver profile.
- 3You receive the available options with cover terms, excess and exclusions set out plainly.
- 4You choose an option and the insurer issues the policy and certificate.
- 5The certificate is used for registration or renewal with your emirate's authority.
Frequently asked questions
Can every imported car be insured comprehensively?
No. Acceptance depends on the insurer, the specification, the age and the repairability of the vehicle. Some imported vehicles are offered third party liability only.
Does an import cost more to insure?
Terms vary by insurer and vehicle. Rather than assume, request quotations for the exact car and compare what is actually offered.
What is the difference between imported and non-GCC?
An imported car is any vehicle brought into the country; non-GCC refers to a vehicle built to a specification other than the Gulf specification. Many imported cars are also non-GCC.
Important: The information on this page is general guidance about motor insurance in the UAE and is not a policy document or a guarantee of cover. Cover, benefits, exclusions, excess amounts and pricing differ between insurers and depend on your vehicle, driver profile and the policy wording issued to you. Always read the policy schedule and terms issued by the insurer before purchasing.
